I77 Raceway Park "At it again in 2010"

Kenny Newhouse and Craig Givens have made it official as the I77 Raceway Park will once again come alive with weekly racing in 2010.  "The Vortex" will echo in the valley with a full racing program starting in early April. Last year the new management group finished out the season in exiting fashion by crowning the champions at the banquet.  In 2009 the racing program was basically carried over from the previous promoter.  In 2010, the new management group will introduce it's own version of Saturday night short track action!

Weekly Class Racing

The first set of announcements will be the classes that will compete on a weekly basis.  I77 will feature AMRA "Super Late Model" racing.  In 2010, the weekly "Super Late" racers will compete for an amazing $1,200 to win. Some of the best racers in the area will try to knock of defending champ Travis Brookover.  Travis has been a mainstay at I77 for years, and he is one of the best up and coming drivers in the area.  "We are proud to enter our second year of AMRA sanctioning on the Late Models" stated promoter Shon Parsons.  "Last year provided great racing and we have a few surprises for the fans this year."  The Super Lates will compete on an open tire again for 2010.  We are also proud to announce that our other weekly classes will be; AMRA Modifieds, Mod Lites, Street Stock and the ever popular "Outlaw" 4 Cylinders.  We will kick our show off every week at 6 P.M. with our Mini Wedges and the rest of the racing program will start at 6:30.  We have listened to the fans and we know that our show had to be speeded up. Featuring these five classes and getting started early will give us that opportunity.

We are also proud to announce our "Down and dirty by 10:30" initiative for 2010.  Our goal will be to have our Late Model Features rolling on the track by 10:30.  Other tracks have had success with this, and once again, we listened to our fans.  By getting our Late Models on the track and getting our feature over at an early time, it will give our fans who have young children, or who travel a long distance to watch the Late Models, a chance to get on the road and get home at a decent time.  We will also continue with our Midnight self imposed curfew.  We will always try to have all our racing done before the strike of twelve.  We hope our fans will be patient, as we are still learning.  This may take some time to master, but it's something our fans asked us to try.

"I77 Big Five" Points Fund

In 2010 we will also introduce the "I77 Big Five" points fund.  We have a sponsor who has stepped to the plate by putting in place a $5,000.00 Points Fund for our Super Lates.  That's right, a $5,000.00 Points Fund.  Our Super Lates will have the opportunity to vie for their share of a $5,000.00 track point fund.  Our Super Lates will be able to count their best ten races to go toward their season point total.  We will pay the top five in points and the winners share will be $2,500.00.  This has never been done in West Virginia, and we are excited to be the first do it.  By offering this points fund and offering $1,200 to the weekly winner we think we will draw some of the best Late Models in the tri state area.  Our goal is to make every week worthwhile for our fans.  We have always had great racing, but in this tough economic times, fans have to make good choices with their money. We think that when you make the decision to come to I77, you will get your moneys worth.  Think of the opportunity that our drivers will have.  This is a lot of money that is up for grabs.

I77 More Fan Friendly in 2010

Last but not least, we are going to work on making I77 more fan friendly. Kenney and Craig have plans to add seating, upgrade the parking, work on the concessions and so much more.  You may also even notice some new changes to the racetrack when you come in.  2010 promises to be a year to remember. "The Vortex" will provide us some exciting racing, and we guarantee a year to remember.

TRACK NEWS

The West Virginia National Guard is bringing "Armed Forces Night" to I-77 Raceway Park Saturday, May 15th.  In honor of our Armed Forces all military personnel with proof of ID get in for $5.00. Those interested in joining the National Guard will also have a chance to visit the recruiting table for more information on an exciting career. There will be five classes of racing including the RWT for the AMRA Modifieds.

RAINCHECKS/DOUBLE FEATURES

We also want to take this opportunity to explain the "Raincheck"/Double feature issue we are faced with. When all the heat races are completed, and a track is forced to run double features, that racing program becomes official. No arm bands or tickets will be honored this weekend. However, by purchasing a general admission ticket or a pitt pass for this race at the normal price, you will be seeing 2 features per class. With Dirt Track racing, sometimes you have to play the hand your dealt. Although we never want fans or drivers to feel that they aren't being treated fairly, the double feature program has been around for years. We are sorry for any confusion this may have caused you. We hope you come out and enjoy some of the best racing in the area. We work every week to listen to our fans and drivers, and we continue to try to make I77 a great "Place to Race."
